Samsung ML-3312ND Network Printer (331x series) + Linux

Summary

This has been a very trouble-free printer for many years for both Windows and Linux computers. For some reason, the Ubuntu Linux install (Gnome) ALWAYS suggests the wrong driver. Once you manually switch it, you will get 2-sided printing and no problems. I am even seeing the ink level in Ubuntu Linux 22.04.

Linux Setup

After going to Settings… Printers… Add, I have been able to find the printer on the network without issues in the latest Gnome software. It then adds the wrong driver and saves the settings.

Go to the gear icon at the right of the printer entry and choose “Printer Details”. In the next window, choose “Select from Database”. If you have double-sided printing, the correct choice is Samsung ML-3310ND (it may have a version number after it).

Like I said, this has been working great for many years.
