Mexico Panoramic Photo

Playa del Carmen is a very busy and compact town on the ocean in the Riviera Maya section of Mexico. There are a lot of places to eat, drink, and be merry. There is also the beautiful beach, or playa, and the ferry to Cozumel, as shown in the 3 photos above. The very first photo in the upper left shows the government regulated vans called Collectivos. They run all day long up and down the Riviera Maya coast's main road. There are bus stops along the way. In 2008, we took the Collectivos from Akumal to Playa del Carmen for 2.50 USD per person. You can also get a coach type bus to Cancun from the bus station in Playa del Carmen.

There are number of different types of places to stay in the Riviera Maya region. Here in Playa del Carmen you are close to the world-class snorkeling and scuba diving and you have lots of restaurants and shops. If you want to party all the time in an all-inclusive resort, there are many Hotels in Cancun and down south along the coast that offer this. If you want a quieter slower-paced vacation, you might prefer the smaller towns of Akumal or Tulum.

These photos were taken in 2008.
