6 – Stockholm Sweden

Stockholm is known as the “Venice of the North”. It is made up of many islands. It seems to be built up much more for business than the other cities I visited in Scandinavia. I’m sure you can relax and enjoy some recreation in Stockholm, but it is harder to find because the town is much bigger, so plan ahead any vacations / holidays. The tour boats were crowded in the middle of June. They are also covered and have longer seats than the ones in Copenhagen, so it is harder to see out. You tune in your language on headphones.

The older architecture in the beginning photos is from old city, or Galma Stan and it is a nice place to walk around. The royal armmory is also located in that area and they have an impressive collection of old armor and carriages.

There is a huge outdoor park called “Skansen” that serves as a cultural museum in the east part of town. It is big and beautiful. Skansen park has many cultural “scenes” similar to the Norwegian Folk Museum in Bygdow near Oslo in Norway. The Town Hall in Stockholm has a park-like atmosphere and a nice view from the benches the people are in. I wonder why I didn’t take a picture of it… The lady-liberty type thing is just one example of the monster mosaics.
