This photo series shows how to create a small patio area with good drainage. A technique for a surrounding Zen rock garden is also shown. The description of each step is seen when viewing the photos, listed below.

  1. Dig and square out the whole larger than needed.
  2. Level the footings using a line level.
  3. Assemble the frame (mine is 5in deep) onto the footings.
  4. Layer landscaping fabric on the bottom and add 3in drainage rocks
  5. Layer landscaping fabric and 1in of stone dust.
  6. Level stone dust, set bluestones, fill cracks with stone dust
