Making your own hot chocolate is very easy, much healthier than a package, and it will taste much better as well. My favorite choice for the milk in this recipe is the diluted coconut milk. It can be very strong and oily if you use it straight up.
Ingredients
- 4 oz coconut milk + 4 oz water* [240ml total]
- 3 tablespoons raw sugar [45ml]
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder** [30ml]
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract [1ml]
Procedure
Total Volume: 1 cup (one serving)
Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 5-10 mins
Whisk the ingredients together well and heat over medium heat until it starts to bubble, stirring often. Lower the heat and cook below boiling for about 5 mins.
Remarks
*This also works fine with 8 oz of rice milk, which is thinner and not as strong as the coconut milk. If you use regular milk, try to use whole milk for better flavor and be aware it will burn easier than the other choices.
**If you find this mix is too rich, reduce both the sugar and cocoa in similar proportions. You could try 2 tblsp sugar and 1 tblsp cocoa, etc.
Many people like to top the drink with whipped cream or marshmallows.
