Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Shigatse Tibet
If you look at the pictures of the Buddha, you might get a feel for the scale of the photo above. The Buddha is 26m high! The largest bronze one anywhere. Tashilunpo monastery was founded in 1477 by Gendun Drup, the first Dalai Lama. It was expanded in the 17th and 18th centuries. Whereas Potala Palace is the home of the Dalai Lama, he is/was the head of the Tibetan government. The “Panchen Lama” (sounds like “Benji”) is the spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhism, and his place is Tashilunpo.
