19 – Dunloe Gap and Castle

I should probably let you know that you can’t really tour the Dunloe Castle. There is some hotel associated with this property that has the name, but is very modern. You can see the Dunloe Castle Hotel on the hotel page. One place it earned the “castle” tag, though, was in the laundry department. They wanted something like 3-4 USD to wash one underwear, so I ended up doing it in the tub.

I say the hotel was modern, but it seemed odd that the room we stayed in reeked of cigarette smoke (in 2004). So, I don’t know if that is good or bad for you, but if it’s bad you should call ahead and see if you can get a smoke-free, or at least aired-out, room. I don’t mean to put it down at all. Some folks on the tour wished they were in the center of Killarney, but I was very happy to be in the countryside. The grounds are very beautiful.
