The Ancient Mounds at Newgrange were what got me to go on this tour in the first place. This mound is a man-made stone cavern that was "discovered" not too long ago. It was created before the pyramids of Egypt, over 4000 years ago.

Whoever built Newgrange had at least some knowledge of astronomy. For a couple of hours at sunrise during the winter solstice, the sun shines through the doorway, hallway, and lights up the back room. There is a lottery you can enter each year to be there for it. Unlike Monasterboice, Mellifont Abbey and Tara Hill, there is a cafeteria at this site.
