| To get to the East Village, I suggest you take the Green Line Subway to Astor Place or Bleeker Street and head east. The L train stops at 1st Avenue up at 14th Street. Back on the Greenwich Village page, I said I didn't want to be particular about the neighborhoods. I don't, but it is easy to see the "East" thing happens as you cross broadway. So here is some scenery from the East Village and "Alphabet City" in downtown NYC. |

| The East Village is primarily a residential district. If you want to see tourist sites, go to South Street Seaport or Times Square. Like I said about the West Village, you can find some unique and independently owned shops, live music, and different kinds of restuarants. "La Plaza Cultural" (2 rows up) looks interesting, but I didn't actually go inside. |

| There are 5 photos of Tompkins Square Park around this text. It is a park in the middle of the village that is pretty quiet, except if they're having a rally or demonstration there. The next stop on the walking tour is Lower East Side & East River Park. Walk south on 1, 2, A, B, C, or D avenue to get there. Take a left on Houston or Delancey for a foot bridge over the FDR Drive to get to the park. |

| So, want to hear my somewhat-dated East Village joke? When someone asks me how to get there I say follow the subway stops: Bleak, Bleeker, Bleakest. Yeah, it's not really like that any more, I had to retire the joke. |
