These pictures are from the central part of New York City known as "Midtown Manhattan". There is no order to them. I saw a show once on the history of New York City and found out why NYC has skyscrapers in the middle of the island, then the buildings get lower in Downtown NYC, and then are huge again at the bottom of the island in the Financial District. One word: bedrock. There isn't enough "ledge", or permanent stone, to build tall buildings on in parts of the island.

This page is part of a walking tour of Midtown Manhattan. These are the kinds of buildings and sites you might see walking from Times Square to Rockefeller Center. Midtown is also the place to see Grand Central Terminal and Bryant Park on 42nd Stree.
These photos were taken 2002 - 2009.
