Exterior Cedar Steps (2013)
Replacement of rotten steps project. My main goal was to open up the boxed-in area under the steps and provide adequate drainage and ventilation. I used new cedar wood for the steps and kept most of the design the same. The pre-cut staircase supports from the big-box stores would not have fit in the existing area so I redid the supports the exact same way.
I think the porch stone foundation walls only had cement on the inside of the wall. Eventually, I had to stop cleaning it out and fill in where I could with mortar. It’s important to keep the wood off of the cement. If you don’t, water will eventually wick up the wood and start to rot it.
